eye spy.... my postcode

I've often looked at Cindy's Eye Spy and thought I'd like myself a bit of that action, but as is so often the case, it was something to do.... tomorrow....

This week, I saw Hoppo Bumpo's post about her locale and it inspired me to take the leap because if there is something I am evangelical about, it is where I live. I love it and will have to be dragged kicking and screaming out of this little corner of Melbourne, or hauled away in a pine (or cardboard as I'm all for the eco friendly) box.

The area we call home is a quiet little suburb about 22 kilometres south of the Melbourne CBD. Many people have to ask where it is and others confuse it with another Melbourne suburb of a similar name.

It has a lovely safe beach that we make good use of in the summer months, even if the walk back up the hill from the beach cancels out the refreshing (okay - cold) dip in the Bay.

There's a good little shopping centre, which used to be better. We used to have a fantastic butcher that made all his own smallgoods, but alas he retired (the nerve!) and a fruitshop run by a good man that would always put aside peaches and nectarines for me because he knows how much I like them. He's gone now as well, to be replaced by a charcoal chicken shop. Not all bad then.

Our strip of shops contains more cafes than is strictly necessary, and for more mornings where there's a walk on the cards, there's a lovely one on the foreshore that serves good eggs. We also have two Indian takeaways, a pizza shop, the best fish and chip shop in the area and a Thai restaurant with a chef that seems to have a carrot fetish.

The housing used to look mostly like this:

but now these are becoming more and more prevalent.

Schools are plentiful and I was told by a Real Estate agent once that the prevalence of schools made this area the "Hawthorn of the south". Not quite.

We have a relatively reliable train service that even goes to Frankston and a bus service staffed by angry men.

One of my favourite spots is a bee keeping supplies outlet that allows you to taste all the different types of honey before filling the container you've brought from home with your choice. My favourite - lavender.

A library, a second hand bookshop, a few hairdressers and a grocery store run by a man that yells at school kids and then follows them around the store completes the suburb I call home.

Thank you Cindy for allowing me aboard!

I love your 'burb too - we could have been neighbours if I didn't end up in my equally as loved 'burb.

I thought your school situation was lacking though ??

Nice 'burb. Of course it would be. You live there.

My (current) 'burb is not worth posting about. Who wants to hear of gigantic villas and loads of sand. And a round-about or two and speed humps? And no local parks? Not me.

Well that sounds like a fabbo place. It's great to love where you live.

We love our little spot and as much as I still hold a candle for Melbourne I feel I couldn't return there without taking my house with me.

Beach in walking distance does sound good, you'd probably have some sea breeze on those feral hot days in Melbourne which I, in the inner north, never get.
